A Suppressed Alien

by Ryang-Yu

/
1.
Walk on your space, go gravity free-down, swimmin' feather When cells are floatin’ on the loose, cross more, way higher, tides, tides of blue Go, play dice, all night Hearts of many fates of people are gonna be undying So spread out all your dreams Wake up in space, the reality is in freedom! Like they fade out When scenes are rubbed up against, cross more, more hide up Tressed up for all your dreams Alone in the night On a dark hill With pines around me Spicy and still, And a heaven full of stars Over my head, White and topaz And misty red; Myriads with beating Hearts of fire That aeons Cannot vex or tire; Up the dome of heaven Like a great hill, I watch them marching Stately and still, And I know that I Am honored to be Witness Of so much majesty. (Quoted from the poem Stars by Sara Teasdale)

about

Ryang-yu, the versatile singer-songwriter, known for her exploration of enigmatic and aesthetically pleasing realms, has delved into a diverse array of musical genres, encompassing blues, pop, and jazz since 2015. Originating from the nostalgic melodies of bygone eras emanating from radio waves, her musical palette expanded to encompass indie compositions from the 2000s, discovered within her personal collection of vinyl records, igniting her odyssey into the realm of lyrical composition. Collaborating as a distinguished vocalist on singer-songwriter Kim Mok-in's "Stored Images" in 2022, she meticulously crafted her inaugural EP, "Witness the Dreams," drawing inspiration from compositions conceived since 2021.

Ryang-Yu's preliminary release, "A Suppressed Alien," was masterfully orchestrated by Piano Shoegazer. Commencing with an evocative prelude reminiscent of interstellar transmissions, the composition seamlessly transitions into its opening verse, evoking a sense of weightlessness akin to astronauts navigating zero gravity. The pulsating bassline and understated percussion coalesce to paint a vivid tableau of celestial voyagers amidst the cosmos. Concluding with a poignant inquiry, "Where did we come from?" the outro narration is imbued with the spirit of poet Sara Teasdale's timeless work, "Stars" (1884-1933).
