about

Dabang Band is a peculiar presence in Korean indie scene. They storm everything straight and all of a sudden, when least expected, everything subsides down. This unorthodox sensitivity easily connects to the liberal minds of “global citizens residing in Jeon-ju.” And Dabang Band’s songs full of these peculiar emotions are expressed so colorfully that the performances often form another peculiar aura.

In the spring of 2002, Myoung Jae Yi (vocal and guitar), Korean-Australian, Jung Sung Hwan (bass), born and raised in Jeonju, Thai from America and Gord (saxophone, former member) from Canada had formed a band and performed mostly in local Jeon-ju area. After participating “2002 Ssamji Sound Festival” as the Hidden Expert, Dabang Band home-produced the debut album [Pig Over Seoul] and released the second studio album [Product] in 2004 through Cabaret Sound, ‘the traditional indie label.” Gord left for his work, and Yoon Ho Sang (guitar) joined the band. Ever since, Dabang Band has been touring and performing at live clubs such as Club Bbang, DGBD, Led Zeppelin, and at film festivals and laid the groundwork for the indie mind, establishing their own style of performance.

Dabang Band’s third and the last EP [Last One (the mast)] includes all the spectrums of 90’s indie rock music. “Sadness” well demonstrates Dabang Band’s irregular styles; “45” touches the emotion with an honest mid-tempo; “Phylum” storms everything straight. [Last One] EP embodies the honest voice that unravels the story through music. Gentle humor steals into Dabang Band’s songs and the songs show the band’s everyday life and also imaginary life in Korea, and in Jeon-ju.
